Two divsions of the Alabama Emergency Management Agency met this week to discuss various aspects of emergency management, mitigation and response.

Division G met in Pell City at UAB-St. Vincent’s. Laura Patterson from AEMA Field Operations briefed the group on the implementation of the Sarah Marsh Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Law. AEMA IT also provided training on the updated emergency management platform used to coordinate disasters.

AEMA Executive Operations Officer Craig Bolling discussed the new camp safety law and provided a timeline for additional information to help clarify the law’s intent and implementation. AEMA Field Operations’ Pam Cook led a discussion on the Safer Spaces program and how counties can help organizations who wish to provide safer spaces to serve as shelters during severe weather.

Division B met in Greenville at the Butler County EMA. AEMA Field Operations Director Ricky Adams and Deputy Director Jessica Schweiger updated partners on camp safety, dam safety and introduced longtime AEMA team member Chris Newton as the new Division B Coordinator.

Each Alabama EMA Division conducts quarterly meetings in an effort to promote preparedness and build a more resilient Alabama.
