The impact of Hurricane Isaias was greatest in the southern counties of the state. Power restoration efforts have dropped the number of outages down below 75,000 – well below the storm’s peak outage number.
Some of the hardest-hit areas were in southwest Alabama, where a “sting jet” of destructive wind on the northwest side of Isaias’ eye caused significant, widespread tree damage in many locations.
The EMA offices in Baldwin, Crenshaw and Conecuh counties are still running on generator power as of this morning. Multiple healthcare facilities in the southern counties of the state face the same challenges. Communications issues are not widespread, but there are isolated problem areas in southwest Alabama.
County and state emergency managers continue to work on storm response and recovery; this effort will continue for weeks and even months in some of the hardest-hit areas.
