Preparedness starts young! That was the theme at Dallas County’s “Be Ready Day” held at Bloch Park in Selma this week.

Local schoolchildren from around the Selma area gathered and learned how to be ready for anything – courtesy of a host of local, state and federal partners who participated in the event.

The National Weather Service presented safety information and tutorials on how to find the most dangerous part of a storm on a radar image – and more importantly, how to find where you live on a map. Local electric utilities taught the basics of safety, while local emergency response and the Selma Fire Department were also on-site to go over fire prevention and safety information.

The Alabama Emergency Management Agency brought its Mobile Command Vehicle, a cutting-edge resource that allows our Agency to re-establish lines of communication and get help to those who need it in hard-hit areas during disasters.
