CLANTON – Friday, 600 am, January 2, 2026

Showers will begin entering the state this morning with widespread showers and a few thunderstorms this evening into Saturday morning.  The bulk of the precipitation will end across the northern half of the state by 10 am Saturday morning and the southern half by 8 pm.

A low-end severe weather event could occur from Saturday morning through the afternoon south of I-85 and mainly east of I-65, where instability and wind shear are forecast to be high enough to support some severe storm development.

A few wind gusts from 40-60 mph, hail, and perhaps a tornado or two are all possible.  Widespread severe weather will not occur.

Total rainfall by Saturday evening will be generally 1 inch or less across the northern half of Alabama, with 0.5 inch or less in the southern half.  No additional rainfall is currently forecast from Sunday through at least next Wednesday with warming temperatures into the middle of next week.
