CLANTON – Tuesday, 7:00 AM, August 5, 2025
Extensive cloud cover and minimal instability kept heavy rainfall from developing on Monday. For today, scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are once again forecast across both the southern and eastern halves of the state. A Flood Watch is still in effect until 7 PM for the eastern sections of Alabama.
The concern is that any strong storm that develops will move very slowly with the potential to produce 1-3 inches in a very short amount of time. Still, the threat for flooding in the watch area will likely be isolated and mainly in urban or poor drainage areas.
The unsettled pattern will continue through the weekend with statewide scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms each day, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Tropical Storm Dexter will continue to move northeastward away from the US. An area of low pressure is forecast to form in a day or two off the southeastern US coast. There is a 40% chance of development and a tropical depression could form late this week or weekend. The system will move slowly westward through Friday then turn northward this weekend. Finally, a tropical wave off the African coast continues to have a 50% chance of development and a tropical depression could form late this week or weekend.
