Dangerously Cold Temperatures Monday And Tuesday With Winter Storm Tuesday

CLANTON – Monday, 6:15 am January 20, 2025

…Extreme Cold Warning for parts of state this morning…

…Winter Storm Watch and Warning south of I-20…

High temperatures today will range from the 20s north to lower 40s far south.   Lows tonight will range from the teens to 20s.  High temperatures on Tuesday will range from 20s north to 30s south.

Areas near and north of I-20 will remain below freezing through at least Wednesday morning. Wind Chill readings during the overnight hours tonight through Thursday morning will be from 2 to -5 north and teens at the coast.

Latest model guidance has shifted the snowfall southward with lesser amounts than yesterday.  The precipitation will begin spreading across the state between 6 am and 10 am Tuesday with the bulk of it between 12 pm and 8 pm, except for the far southeastern counties where snowfall may linger until 2 am Wednesday.

Where an inch or more of snow occurs, it is highly likely that road impacts will continue into Thursday.  There could still be forecast changes in amounts and locations today or tonight.

Low temperatures by Wednesday morning will again be bitterly cold with single digits north to teens all the way to the coast.  High temperatures Wednesday are forecast to be 30s north to lower 40s south.  However, with areas of snowfall across southern AL, these forecast temperatures may be too warm.

I can’t stress enough that any accumulatingsnowfall, especially on untreated roads, has the potential to cause immediate and hazardous driving conditions once it begins.  Especially where an inch or more of snowfall occurs, road impacts are likely to continue into Thursday.
