The primary mission and function of the Operations Section is to ensure that AEMA is prepared to respond in a timely manner and to effectively manage any incident, or response effort. The primary strategic document is the Alabama Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). The section is organized into the Mutual Aid Branch, Operations/Response Branch, and Logistics Branch. The Director of Operations function is to activate the EOC based on the incident and develop an incident manning roster. He bridges the command and control between the agency director and EOC staff. He commits state resources or requests outside resources in order to ensure timely support either requested by counties or as directed by the State Coordinating Officer (SCO).
