AEMA and
Huntsville NWS to hold news conference to urge Alabamians to
Prepare for Winter Weather Awareness
HUNTSVILLE—The Alabama Emergency Management
Agency (AEMA), National Weather Service and North Alabama
Emergency Management Agencies are encouraging residents of
Alabama to prepare for the 2007/2008 winter season. Preparations
should include, but aren’t limited to, having a three-day supply
kit, creation of a family communication plan, monitoring
information from your local emergency management agency and
having a NOAA weather radio.
According to the National Weather Service
the last major winter storm in Alabama, the “Storm of the
Century,” completely paralyzed much of the state with heavy, wet
snow as well as downed trees and power lines. Record cold
followed the storm. Property damage exceeded 50 million dollars.
“Our agency realizes it has been several years since our state
has experienced a major winter weather event, but it’s for that
reason we want people to refresh their plans and make sure they
have a plan action for the current season, “said John James,
Acting Director of the Alabama Emergency Management Agency.
