Preparedness Division - Terrorism

Since September 11, 2001 the State of Alabama, like all states over the rest of the nation, has been on a heightened security alert. Federal, state, and local authorities monitor and share updated Homeland Security and Department of Justice (DOJ) information on the potential for terrorist activity. AEMA has been working for years to administer DOJ funding for first responder equipment, training, and exercises in order for local communities to be better prepared and enhance response capabilities, especially in the larger metropolitan areas in our state. Many agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security have developed guidelines on how to prepare for potential terrorist incident.
